Useful Sustainability Resources

The following links aim to provide our residents with the tools to learn about sustainability initiatives and practices. 

  • Lindenhurst Lakes Commission- The Lakes Commission is a Village Commission that supports a comprehensive program that incorporates both protection and restoration activities, as appropriate, to effectively improve and maintain the quality of our Village lakes.
  • Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO)- The Village works very closely with SWALCO to provide special material recycling for residents. Please visit SWALCO's website for additional information on recycling programs and how to recycle electronics, household chemical waste, textiles, shoes, and other materials. 
  • Lindenhurst Solid Waste and Recycling Programs- This link provides a comprehensive look at the waste and recycling programs in the Village. 
  • Lindenhurst Park District- The Lindenhurst Park District offers many parks and programs for Lindenhurst residents to participate in. 
  • Lake County Forest Preserve District- Residents have access to many forest preserves that are in close distance to the Village. 
  • University of Illinois Extension- The University of Illinois Extension provides resources for selecting native plants and provides other resources for planting and sales. 
  • Illinois Department of Natural Resources- The IDNR provides additional information on the importance of native plantings, requirements, and plant lists. 
  • Openlands- Openlands is an organization that aims to protect the natural and open space in northeastern Illinois and the surrounding region to ensure cleaner air and water, protect natural habitats and wildlife, and help balance and enrich our lives. 
  • Woody Invasives of the Great Lakes- Are you interested in learning about the woody species that have been identified as invasive? This website will teach you how to identify invasives, recommended landscape alternatives, and how to control them. 
  • Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)- The IEPA provides a wide variety of resources for residents to learn about different topics as land, air, water, energy, and other regulations. 
  • Lake County Stormwater Management Commission- Lake County has a dedicated commission that provides grants and education to residents and members on a variety of stormwater-related functions. This link provides additional information on rainfall data, flood prevention, and investing in stormwater facilities, and recommends best practices for stormwater drainage.
