March 28, 2016 Construction Update:

Lake Michigan Watermain Phase 1 Improvements – This work will improve the flow and distribution of water based on the new connection at Route 45 and Falling Waters Drive and add new watermain to areas in the Village currently serviced by private wells.

  • Sand Lake Road at Valley Drive is currently closed to traffic. A small portion of watermain will be installed in the same location as the current watermain, existing underground and overhead utilities required the lane closure to facilitate this difficult installation. It is anticipated the closure will take 3-4 weeks.
  • Old Elm Road, Woodlane Drive, Valley Road and Lindenhurst Drive new watermain installation is nearly complete. Existing house water services are being transferred over to the new watermain. The roadway base reconstruction work will be starting in early April and paving will be done as soon as bituminous asphalt is available this spring. Ditches and turf will be restored, with seeding done in late April/early May.
  • The new watermain was installed last fall from Route 45 through Country Place South to SE Thornwood Drive to Beck Road. This spring, trench settlement will be addressed and reseeding work will be redone.
  • Northgate Road and High Point Drive work is starting the week of March 28. New watermain, valves, and house water service connections will be installed to improve water flow in the area. Upon completion of the watermain, curb and gutter removed will be replaced, and the roadway will be paved later this spring.

On March 14, 2016 the Village Board awarded bids for:

  • Lake Michigan Watermain Phase 2 Improvements were awarded to DeMeo Brothers, Inc. in the amount of $6,496,000. The watermain construction in this phase will include Beck Road from Grass Lake Road south to the intersection of 2300 (E-W) Beck Road and 300 (N-S) Beck Road. In addition are watermain extensions on Fairfield Road, Ridgeland Drive, Countryside Lane, Briar Lane, Sunset Lane and Thornwood Drive now served by private wells. New watermains will replace existing watermains on Hickory Court, Hazelwood Drive, Sprucewood Lane, Longmeadow Drive, Witchwood Lane, and Laurel Drive to provide a better flow between the two water towers. A new storm sewer will be installed on Fairfield Road to address chronic flooding.
  • Manusos Construction, Inc. was awarded the bid of $3,522,000 for the construction of the one-million-gallon Water Reservoir and Booster Pump Station. This work is at the west end of Falling Waters Drive adjacent to the existing water tower. The reservoir and booster station will be the way in which Lake Michigan water will be pumped to the Village residents. This is the connection point to the Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency watermain.

Work on both projects will be starting in April.  During construction, streets may be closed to through traffic. Motorists are encouraged to avoid construction areas and use the marked detour routes.  The Village will notify residents when work will begin on their street and coordinate mail, garbage, and school busses. Thank you all for your patience during the construction process.
