50/50 Programs

The Village offers a variety of 50/50 programs that aim to reimburse residents who participate in these programs.

  • Tree Replacement: This program aims to reimburse residents for the cost of a single tree planted in their parkway or private yard. The planting of new trees improves air quality and enhances the Village's forestry landscape.  Residents who qualify for the tree replacement reimbursement program will be reimbursed 50% of the cost of a single tree, up to $200, excluding sales tax, delivery, accessories, etc. In order to qualify for reimbursement, residents should double-check that their species of tree meets Village standards.
  • Shoreline Stabilization: This program aims to reimburse lakeshore property owners for acceptable shrubs and plantings that help preserve the shoreline and water quality of our Village lakes. Residents who qualify for the shoreline stabilization program will be reimbursed 50% of the cost for acceptable shrubs and plantings that help preserve the shoreline and water quality of the lakes. Residents may also be eligible for up to $100 for plantings recommended for Shoreline Buffer Strips, excluding sales tax, delivery, installation, etc.
  • Rain Barrel/ Compost Bin:  This program aims to reimburse residents who purchase these items to reduce residential water consumption and improve soil and plant life. Residents who qualify for the 50/50 rain barrel and compost bin reimbursement program will be reimbursed 50% of the cost of a single rain barrel or compost bin up to $75, excluding sales tax, delivery, accessories, etc.
  • Culvert Replacement: The Village's culvert replacement program reimburses residents who replace their culvert to improve stormwater drainage. Residents who qualify will be reimbursed 50% of the cost of their construction materials up to $750. Once the culvert is installed, please call Village Hall at 847-356-8252 to schedule a public works inspection. Please note that the Village requires specific specifications for culvert installation that include:
    • The minimum length of the culvert is 20 feet.
    • The replacement culvert diameter must match the current existing size or larger.
    • If a resident is unable to upsize the culvert due to the volume of water, dual culverts can be installed.
    • Elliptical pipe (squash pipe) can be installed in order to meet minimum coverage requirements.
    • End sections are recommended but not required.
