The Village
Board is the legislative body of the municipality and are
collectively the Corporate Authorities. They are responsible
for establishing Village policy in compliance with the Constitution
of the United States and Constitution of the State of Illinois.
They are the repository of all municipal powers which have
not been delegated to some other office or board of the municipality.

The Plan
Commission is appointed by the Village Board to review all
new building and planning concepts. The Plan Commission reviews
all concepts in detail for compliance with the Village comprehensive
plan and zoning ordinance. Site plan, open space, density,
signage, landscaping, etc. among many other items are reviewed.
The Plan Commission makes recommendations to the Village Board
and do not have legislative authority.

The Lakes
Commission is appointed by the Village Board to monitor the
health and usage of our local lakes. They monitor fishery,
native and non-native plant growth and passive or active recreation
uses. They make recommendations to the Village Board.

Pension is appointed by the Village Board. They manage finances
an pension benefits including payment of bills and authorization
for disbursements of individual holdings to those who no longer
participate in the pension fund.

The Police
and Fire Commissioners establish the procedure for testing,
screening and selection of sworn police officers below the
rank of Chief. They may become involved in promotional and/or
disciplinary actions within the department. Their powers are
pursuant to state statute.

The Zoning
Board of Appeals is appointed by the Village Board and perform
review of appeals to administrative decisions, requests for
variances and special use requests. Their powers are both
statutory and outlined by local ordinance. Their decisions
are recommended to the Village Board.

SANITARY DISTRICT |

The Lindenhurst
Sanitary District is the owner and governing authority over
the wastewater treatment plant located in the Village. The
Village of Lindenhurst is the contract operator of the treatment
plant. The Sanitary District has powers and duties outlined
by state statute.
